Book Cover Design & Promotional Trailer

Designed a complete book cover system including the front, back, spine, and flaps using Photoshop and Illustrator, along with a promotional trailer video.

Project Background

This book cover design originated from a class project. Instead of creating a purely hypothetical design, I based it on my own self-published memoir to make the work more meaningful.

The goal was to design a complete cover system, including the front, back, spine, and flaps, while also creating a promotional trailer to showcase how the book could be marketed. Through this project, I explored both editorial design and multimedia promotion, demonstrating how a book’s visual identity can extend beyond print into digital platforms.

Design Process
Concept

My memoir shares my journey of settling into a new environment and offering guidance to others.

To reflect this, I designed a cover with a bright yellow palette and approachable typography to convey warmth and encouragement.

Detail Exploration

I created a complete book cover system that includes the front, back, spine, and interior flaps with sections such as About the Author and About the Book. Flat mockups were used to showcase the full spread, while close-up views highlight the balance of text and visual elements across different parts of the design. This approach demonstrates both the functional layout and the overall tone I intended to deliver.

The final book cover system integrates front, back, spine, and flaps into a cohesive and approachable design.

Reflection

This project allowed me to explore designing a cohesive visual system for a publication, balancing aesthetics and readability.

Beyond the design itself, creating the book and seeing even a small number of readers benefit from it reinforced the impact of thoughtful, user-centered content. Inspired by this experience, I realized the potential to help a wider audience through digital solutions, which led to the concept and development of the U Welcome app.
